Over 100 years of Amateur Radio history

FARS is one of the UK's longest-established amateur radio clubs, representing radio enthusiasts across Furness and South Cumbria for more than a century. Tracing its roots back to the Barrow Furness Wireless Association, founded in 1913, the society has played a key role in promoting amateur radio, technical education and community engagement.

Today, FARS brings together licensed radio amateurs, shortwave listeners and newcomers interested in the hobby. Affiliated with the Radio Society of Great Britain, the society encourages all aspects of amateur radio, from operating and contesting to electronics construction, training, experimentation and public demonstrations.

FARS holds regular meetings, talks, practical workshops, special events and on-air activities, providing members with opportunities to develop their technical skills, share knowledge and enjoy the social side of the hobby. Whether helping members gain their amateur radio licence, participating in national radio events, or supporting local community initiatives, Furness Amateur Radio Society continues to foster a welcoming environment for anyone with an interest in radio communications and technology.

Norbreck Radio Rally

As is custom, members of FARS will attend the 2027 Norbreck Amateur Radio, Electronics and Computing Exhibition to be held at the Norbreck Castle Hotel Exhibition Centre on Queens Promenade, North Shore, Blackpool, FY2 9AA.
